REPORT ON LAST SUNDAYS REFEREES / KUMITE & KATA COURSE
The new way of splitting the courses in two worked well me thinks, had nearly 200 training over 2 courses, well done and thanks to all the Instructors who made the effort and students!,
We just need to get students into the hall faster, so we will set 2 tables up next time if students could have the correct money when they arrive it would speed things up greatly. Many students did both courses which only increases your Karate knowledge. The sporting side can always have a crack at a kata and the traditional karate-ka should get their mitts on & the referees course is open to everyone, its all more knowledge!!
The Fighting course; was taken by the squad coaches; John Tumman, Dave Holmes, Craig burke & assistant Graham Summerfield. We ran through the NEW rules for fighting, these will be in for our own competitions starting on the 22nd Feb comp. The groups we split into 4 and each instructors coached a technique to each group, then its was hand mitts on for the rest of the course fighting. had around 80 on the course.
On the Kata course; all students learnt their next kata for grading or the one above that. Thanks to all the instructors who coached a kata. had around 120 on the kata course.
Sensei Alex Gardner; who is the kata coach or shindo kai, taught the kata Empi, the next session will be at the Barnsley karate centre dojo in town on Saturday 21st Feb, 1.00 pm - 2.30 pm, cost £4 x 1 / £7 x 2 / £10 x 3 / £12 x 4n (family rates). ideally he would like the students who were in his group at Athersley as they know the kata and need technical fault sorting out, if someone turns up for the first time it will be very difficult for Alex to do 2 things at once.
Referees course; We had 41 on the referees course, but were compromised by time and space, the next course will start at 10.00 am and will have 30 minutes without any distractions. The new exam is now running for anyone 18 plus wanting to go for higher Dan grades. (attached).

Forms are out at your clubs, I need names and payments by Sunday 1st Feb.
After our AGM meeting, it was decided by all instructors to add on £1.00 for SQUAD ONLY competitions where we have up to 6 coaches that travel to a competition to coach Shindo kai students. Some coaches have to pay their own entry as spectators and petrol costs, adding the extra £1.00 onto an entry will cover coaches expenses. When we get a large entry we need the help, We are the envy of some associations with so many coaches, some have large squads and 1 coach for the day!
I hope everyone understands and willingly contributes the £1. This comp is a 2 day event.
SHINDO KAI'S OWN CHAMPIONSHIPS. (22nd Feb)

Open to all students with an upto date license. (license check on the day for all competitors)

EKF REFEREES & COACHING COURSE MANCHESTER.
Saturday 21st feb.
Anyone who wants to coach at AMA, ENGLISH or BRITISH competition in 2009 MUST attend this course to get your badge, you will sit some kind of exam to show you understand the Kumite rules, the rules I have attached is the shindo kai examination. if you want a full set of rules go onto the EKF web site. Attached is the form that need sorting out by each individual and sending off. I am contacting sensei terry pottage in the next few days to ask him what we wear and what's expected of us, I will let you know ASAP. hang fire with the forms until next weeks news letter so I can tell you more. Also open to anyone who wants to see how a English referees course works and see where you are with things.
