** Shindo kai hits the 800 members mark!!**

SHINDO KAI NATIONAL KARATE CHAMPIONSHIPS 2009.

REPORT

 

This was the biggest championships Shindo kai have ever organized, 311 students in the fighting events & 170 in Kata events. Organizing such and events start weeks in advance, booking medical teams, trophies, & venue. Then the club Instructors gather all the students onto entry forms and send in,  draws have to be done etc.Sensei Ashley Pickles then organizes the Referees, Judges and Table officials. Then we have the kitchen staff, people on the doors all who help the team out. Such a massive operation could not work without Sensei Ged at the helm and team work from, club Instructors, students, parents, officials and coaches,

A big thank you if you supported the association and your club in any way. Osu!!

 

The championship was opened with the Chief Instructor Sensei Ged Tumman welcoming everyone to the event & the traditional bowing in.

 

SQUAD AWARDS FOR 2009;

Junior kata; Thomas Wiggan, Senior Kata; Alex Gardner.

Junior Fighter; Chloe Cooke, Runner up; Lewis Bretoner

Senior Fighter; Chloe Sheldon; Runners up; Siobhan Hayes & Garrick Eastwood.

Thanks were shown to Sensei Dave Holmes & Sensei John Tumman who are stepping down as junior coaches for the squad after 5 years.

 

Sensei John Tumman then outlined ''Team Shindo kai'' squad achievements for 2009.

208 top level placings in major English, British and international events.

Alex Gardner, Chris Rigg, Chloe Sheldon, Siobhan Hayes & Craig Burke on the England squad, Garrick Eastwood on A squad.

Alex Gardner was also selected for 2010 Junior European championships in Turkey and Crag Burke next week competes in Tenerife.

A fantastic year for the squad and in January 2010 we hope more students will come forwards to join either the Kumite or Kata squad.

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP REPORT;

England 19th out of 82 countries. 1144 competitors took part. On Monday the Squad will be traveling home.

1 SILVER (RYAN JAY)AND 1 BRONZE (TOM HICKMAN)

SHINDO KAI'S OWN COMPETITOR, ALEX GARDNER WAS IN THE TEAM KATA, THEY LOST IN ROUND 2 TO RUSSIA. WELL DONE ALEX, EVERYONE IS PROUD OF YOU, BRING HOME ALL THIS EXPERIENCE AND PASS IT ONTO OUR OWN SQUAD MEMBERS.

• Aimee Sell won first round 5-0 then Lost to Spain then Spain list so no repo
• Mitchell Roberts had ante then came up against Latvia won 5-0 then Lost 4-1 to Egypt

November 13th - 2nd Day of Competition

• Jack dixon loses 3rd round to turkey no repechage
• Emma Lucraft lost to Peru, Peru lost in semi finals so no repechage

November 12th - 1st Day of Competition

• Carla burkitt lost 1st round to japan on judges decision came back in repechage lost to Scotland
• Cheyne Phillips just lost the bronze medal to Belarus

Sensei Matt Handley; As I reported last week, sensei matt had the England squad to pre train before they fly to morocco for the Junior world championships at his dojo for a full week. They trained 3 times a day, Matt had to get up at 6.30 am and open his dojo, stay witht he sqauad all day then run his own sessions in the evening. matt gave up his time and dojo all free of charge and the comments from the National coach, athelets and EKF board was fantastic. matt had no need to do this, but his passion for karate came to the front before profit and myself and sensei Ged cant congratulate Matthew enough, his actions have not gone unnoticed. It was great for the association, matthew club but more importantly for the England squad who had nothing to worry about.

On behalf of the association can I thank Matt for all he has done. Thank you, Osu!

NOTE FROM ALEX GARDNER AND KAREN (MOTHER)

Hi John,
Could you please circulate this to everyone who has helped in fundraising for Alex.
He is eventually packed and ready to go, flying from Heathrow Monday at 5pm. Th competition starts on Thursday and Alex's event is on Sunday.
Its been a very hectic 3 weeks, he was pretraining in London all half term week, came home for three days and then went back down on Tuesday this week, and came back on Friday night. The whole squad have worked very hard.
As you can imagine this is all added cost in train, petrol, accomodation and food. 
We cannot thank the members of Shindo Kai, and the Barnsley community enough. 
Alex has been doing Karate since he was six yrs old, and his first international competition was in Hungary aged eight, followed by more England representations, all of which we applied for funds. Never have we had such a response, and genuine interest in Alex.
I know he is overwhelmed by what people have done, and is determined to repay the debt through his Karate.

Polite reminder; The registrar is going on holiday at the start of NOVEMBER, all licenses run out on the 14th of the month and will not be processed in time for our national championships on the 22nd of November.

They need to be in the hands of the registrar for the 1st of November.

Out of date license means no insurance , which mean no training or shindo kai events. thank you

OFFICIALS / FIGHTING / KATA / BLACK BELT GRADING COURSE

 

Many thanks to the club instructors, coaches, students who made this course one of our biggest to date;

A cheque for £1,000 was handed over to Alex who has been picked for the world karate championships in morocco in November. this was raised by the students from the Barnsley Karate Center who raised £905.00 (special thanks to paul barradell), Rotherham martial arts club £64.00 and we threw in £31 on the day to make it upto £1,000. well done to everyone who contributed to help Alex out.

• The referees course run by Chief referee Sensei Ashley Pickles had 25 attending, working on kumite and kata marking.
• The Kumite course run by Sensei's Craig Burke & Paul Newby had around 60 training on all aspects of Kumite.
• The Kata Course run by various coaches and Sensei Alex who is our Kata coach had around 110 training to get those katas correct.
• Then the Dan grading; 6 from sport karate, and 31 from wado.
• listed below are the students who passed the grading, commiseration's to those who failed.

Alex flew out to Copenhagen this weekend to compete in a warm up event for the worlds, he got a sliver & made it to the 3rd round in the adult kata event, well done Alex!

        Sensei Alex (our Kata coach) has been picked to represent England in the team kata event at the Junior World championships in Morocco. He must find £650.00 for his flight and hotel. He is putting on a general karate course to improve any karate-ka's skills all money raised will go towards his expenses, both traditional and sport karate students will find the course interesting. If you would like to attend the course and support Alex in raising funds the course details are above.

The Shindo Kai track suit has changed design. They were discontinuing the style and sizes were already out of stock, so with Christmas a coming I have got a new design. Very similar to the old one, same colours. Have put the printing on the back to a darker colour as well so it shows up more.

COACHES JOHN & DAVE CALL IT A DAY!

For 5 years now Sensei John & Dave have been the Junior Squad coaches. This competition was our last coaching the squad. We have enjoyed every competition up & down the land, every medal a squad member has won, comforted the kids when they have lost, sorted out organisers who miss names off entries, argued with parents who say their kids should be in a better teams!!. But we don't want to hang on too long and we think the time is right to step down and let another team take care of the squad. Can I thank Dave who's been up and down the country with myself missed his own son callum fighting on many occasions and has been true servant to the squad, thank you David!

I would also like to thank all the squad members & parents who have helped us and made our jobs easier by trusting our judgement and being professional with getting entry info and fees back to your instructors on time so I could sort out the paper work. Its been great fun with the squad and once again can I thank you all for your support over the years, OSU!

We hand them out at our Nationals on 22nd November and they must be taken in for engraving.

Siobhan & Chloe travelled to Dublin, Ireland last weekend for a grand slam karate event. Both girls fought well on their fist England debut and over all the England women's team came fist place. well done girls a great start to your England careers, keep it up! Osu

12.00 - 1.30 pm; Kata course. learn your next grading kata or competition kata with sensei Alex.

1.30 - 3.30 pm Dan Grading. (closed to candidates and family)

 

All students who are Dan grading must train on either the Kumite or Kata course, this is part of your Dan grading.

 

Everyone who goes for Dan grading MUST fill in the Dan grade application form and get it back to me before

        Sensei Alex (our Kata coach) has been picked to represent England in the team kata event at the Junior World championships in Morocco. He must find £650.00 for his flight and hotel. He is putting on a general karate course to improve any karate-ka's skills all money raised will go towards his expenses, both traditional and sport karate students will find the course interesting. If you would like to attend the course and support Alex in raising funds the course details are above, we are also holding a raffle at the Barnsley Dojo, if my student who are reading this e mail can bring prizes for the raffle and more importantly buy a ticket, 50p each, this money will also go towards his expenses.

EVERYONE WHO IS DAN GRADING MUST FILL IN THE DAN GRADING APPLICATION FORM AND HAND IT TO YOUR CLUB INSTRUCTOR. I NEED TO BOOK THE SPORT CENTRE AND SORT OUT THE SPACE FOR EACH CLUBS DAN GRADING. THANKS

THERE WILL BE WADO BLACK BELT SESSIONS EVERY TUESDAY AT THE BARNSLEY KARATE CENTRE 7.00 - 8.00 PM (£4.00) FOR ANYONE THAT WANTS THAT EXTRA HELP AND DOJO TIME.

PLEASE ASK YOUR INSTRUCTOR IF ITS OK TO ATTEND IF YOU ARE NOT FROM MY DOJO AS THEY MAY BE PUTTING ON EXTRA CLASSES.

CRB & ISA CHECKS

Parents could face a £5,000 fine for driving their children's friends to a sports event or Karate competition.
They face punishment and a criminal record if they have not been vetted first by a massive new government agency.
An astonishing 11.3million people - one adult in four - are likely to come under the watchful eye of the Independent Safeguarding Authority.
Launched next month, it will be the biggest vetting and clearing system in the world.
Every person who comes into regular contact with children or the elderly, through work or volunteering, must be approved by ISA officials checking for criminal convictions, disciplinary action and even unproven allegations.
It goes way beyond the current Criminal Records Bureau system, which covers only 6million people.

It will even apply to parents who, at the request of organisations like junior football teams or the Guides, give their children's friends lifts to or from events.
If they do so without first being vetted by the ISA's 200 staff, they could be fined up to £5,000 and given a criminal record.
The clubs themselves will face a £5,000 fine - potentially enough to ruin them.
